Dalton

Dalton is a senior at Newberg High School.  He’s also good friends with my son Grant.  They have played water polo together for the past four years and started working together last year.  When they aren’t in the pool training or at the job site working, you’ll probably find them at Taco Bell, Shari’s, or hanging out at one of their houses.  Those water polo boys really have developed a strong brotherhood.  It’s pretty special.

Dalton loves the rain and the snow, so he purposely waited to schedule his senior portrait session until late in the fall.  Unfortunately the day of his session it was abnormally “warm” (38 degrees) in the mountains where we traveled for his session.  What should have been a big snowfall was pouring rain, even up at Timberline Lodge.  We talked about rescheduling his session, but Dalton is adventurous.  He wanted to just wing it and work with whatever weather we were lucky enough to get.

In the two hours that we were shooting Dalton’s session, it rained hard about 3/4 of the time.  But the rain didn’t stop us. Dalton found his inner model and posed his way through the coldest, wettest session I’ve done and… it was a BLAST!  He sat in the snow and got his jeans soaked.  Threw snowballs at Grant. Changed into all kinds of fun outfits, and then finished his session showcasing his athletic prowess.

Dalton has been a big part of the Newberg High School water polo program that has won the 6A state championship all FOUR years of Dalton’s high school career.  He’s a fast and strong swimmer, a wrestler, and a talented lacrosse player.  We took some more traditional shots with his lacrosse gear and then Dalton’s true personality emerged.  Dalton is smart and responsible, but he is also loaded with fun and whimsy.  He doesn’t take himself too seriously and has a quiet confidence. He stripped down to his Speedo (but kept his shoes and socks on) and went out into the pouring mountain rain and stood in deep snow posing and flexing.  Everyone in the lodge was staring out the window laughing and admiring his spunk.  He even took his sled for a little ride before he got dressed. It was HILARIOUS!

Thank you Dalton for such a fun day.  I think you are awesome and I’m so glad you and Grant are friends.  May God bless you as you finish out your senior year and move into your next big phase in life.
